Netbooks are all the rage and Windows 7 has generally getting a warm reception for its relatively resource-liteness (compared to Vista anyway). Seems like the two are destined for one another.
Hold your horses!
Word of crippled starter edition for netbooks gained momentum this week, threatening to undo a lot of the goodwill the upcoming OS has garnered. A Microsoft staffer clarified the situation to BetaNews:
“Any SKU of Windows 7 will be able to run on netbooks, which means that the hardware limitations of a netbook won’t affect the functionality of Windows 7 regardless of SKU,” the spokesperson told us. “With Windows 7, Microsoft is on track to have a smaller OS footprint, an improved user interface that should allow for faster boot-up and shut-down times, improved power management for enhanced battery life, enhanced media capabilities and increased reliability, stability and security.”
Feel better? Chances are that if you’re shopping for a Windows netbook later this year (?) it will have most if not all of the whiz-bang features you’re expecting.
