iBuyPower Core i5 Gaming PC, an inexpensive performer

October 2nd, 2009 by Rafael Hernandez No comments

iBuyPower Corei5 Core i5While we’d all like to own the top of the line when it comes to hardware and the like sometimes you’ll settle for the lower cost option because you really don’t need all of that power or the budget is set lower than you’d want. That doesn’t mean you can’t get your game on.

Test Freaks has a look at the iBuyPower Corei5 gaming computer which puts together a competent set of hardware for your gaming needs all at an acceptable price:

Before we get into the comparison, I wanted to touch on the Express Gate Asus Splashtop. It’s a nice feature so you can get some stuff done, without actually having to boot into windows, the entire OS is right on the board itself. I’m not going to go into it all as it’s been covered many other places in depth but it’s a very useful, and quick to do quite a few things.

Heck their test system even includes a built-in OS should you want to do some basic web browsing without the tedious operating system load up.

Digital Storm Core i7-965, Extreme Gaming Computer

May 20th, 2009 by Rafael Hernandez No comments

The high end pre-built computer market is chock full o’ companies that tend to come up with insane designs with the price tags to match them and give you something that resembles a high tech cheese grater rather than the insane gaming rig you ordered.

Digital Storm’s Core i7-965 is an insane gaming rig and AnandTech made sure to put together an order that would test the company’s commitment to quality. The CPU is overclocked to 4GHz, there’s triple SLI Nvidia GeForce GTX 285s to game on, and some RAID 0 Western Digital Raptors for that speedy file access. Here’s a look at their revew:

This component mix is the stuff of dreams, with
very good choices all around here. An identical configuration on the
website hovers around the $6000 mark ($6027 at the time of writing), so
clearly this kind of system is an upper end purchase. At this price,
the consumer expects blistering performance. The power supply is
enormous, but the three GTX 285s require a lot of power, and you don’t
want to skimp on this area with a Triple SLI system.

Highly impressive stuff and, from the look of things, a company you should consider for your next high-end purchase.

Sims 3 Eschews Invasive DRM, Potty Breaks In Game Still Mandatory

Electronics Arts has had a rough go of it over the past year and making
one of their largest customer bases happy seems to be on their mind.
The company is taking it easy on the Digital Rights Management front by going for the old CD key needed to install, with no invasive disc checking to play method that has worked pretty darn well in the past.

No registering over the internet, no authorization mess ups, nothing to
contend with but building things for your characters and dealing with
their needs.

Check out EA’s Sims 3 news site  for the whole story.
