Sims 3 Eschews Invasive DRM, Potty Breaks In Game Still Mandatory

March 26th, 2009 by Rafael Hernandez No comments

Electronics Arts has had a rough go of it over the past year and making
one of their largest customer bases happy seems to be on their mind.
The company is taking it easy on the Digital Rights Management front by going for the old CD key needed to install, with no invasive disc checking to play method that has worked pretty darn well in the past.

No registering over the internet, no authorization mess ups, nothing to
contend with but building things for your characters and dealing with
their needs.

Check out EA’s Sims 3 news site  for the whole story.

New Blue Xbox 360 Dev Unit in Pics

March 25th, 2009 by pepo No comments

Xbox 360 Blue Development KitMTV Multiplayer Blog has some pics of the stylishly shiny and blue Xbox 360 development kit (XDK) that will be available this summer. This version packs 1 GB of memory, twice that of the consumer version, to give debugging tools room to breathe. And, of course, it can run pre-release code.

Let’s hope that Microsoft releases consumer versions just like the original clear green Xbox debug kit’s housing resurfaced as the Halo edition.

Here’s a video to stir up some old-school MMORPG nostalgia. Sony Online Entertainment has put together this video that chronicles a decade of EverQuest and its expansions for the 10th anniversary of the groundbreaking online role playing game. As fun as the dance emote is, the real draw is the collection of interesting little tidbits displayed throughout.

Enjoy!

GTA 4: The Lost And The Damned MP Preview

February 16th, 2009 by Rafael Hernandez No comments

When you’ve got a commitment for three game add-ons for an insanely popular game you better bring something interesting to the table. Thankfully the folks at Rockstar seem to provide just that with their upcoming downloadable content for the Microsoft Xbox 360 in the form of Grand Theft Auto 4: The Lost and the Damned. UGO has played around in its multiplayer content and has some thoughts:

A lot of folks complained about the price of The Lost and the Damned,
even though 20 bucks for 10 to 15 hours of new campaign seems like a
pretty good deal to me. To sweeten the deal, Rockstar is also offering
a handful of new multiplayer modes, exclusive to the pack. Apart from
Free Mode and Deathmatch, these modes are unique to The Lost and the
Damned, which is good news for folks that are a little sick of running
through Mafia over and over again.

Tons of single player and multi-player content make it a must have.

Left 4 Dead, Zombie Hunting Season Is Open

November 20th, 2008 by Rafael Hernandez No comments

The thrill of racking up a zombie body count is quite exhilarating, especially when you’ve got some backup in the way of three of your bestest friends (or complete strangers). bit-tech has a look at the highly anticipated Left 4 Dead game which has you trying to survive an onslaught of really creepy living dead. Here’s a peek:

So here’s what you need to know. The world of Left 4 Dead is set
in that most easily explained of fictitious scenarios, the Zombie
Apocalypse. The fast-zombie apocalypse to be precise (slow shufflers
just wouldn’t be as entertaining would they?), with five more unique
boss zombies tossed into the mix such as The Boomer, horribly obese and
intent on vomiting on you to attract the zombie horde, or The Hunter,
who can pounce long distances and pin you to the ground.

One thing that all the zombies have in common though is that they are
between you and the next safe haven and that they’ll drop dead for a
second time after a liberal application of lead. Thus the twenty-level
stage is set as you and three other survivors, controlled by either AI
or other players depending on what you want, begin an epic journey to
rescue.

The game is divided into four campaigns split between five levels
connected via safe havens, and while all are based upon the same
premise of a trek through zombie infested territory each has a unique
feel thanks to the surprisingly varied environments. One campaign
begins in a green house on the ruins of a small town before climaxing
on the tarmac of an airport runway, while another sees the survivors
journey to the top of a sky scraper to reach rescue.

Loads of fun to be sure! Just make sure your friends actually like you before you play, they may just use you as bait.
