Gigabyte UASP USB 3.0 driver improves USB 2.0 speeds as well

It’s rare that a new driver actually improves performance for things as mundane as a USB port but, somehow, Gigabyte’s (or more likely Renesas/NEC) new UASP USB 3.0 driver manages to improve USB 2.0 speeds quite handily when running on USB 3.0 Gigabyte motherboards which sport the appropriate controller chipset. Considering how painfully slow many external storage units are it’s bound to be a welcome speed boost for those with the hardware.

ATI Catalyst 10.5 Drivers Released

Another month gone by means yet another ATI Catalyst driver set. The company’s efforts have brought their drivers up to version 10.5 bringing along a number of fixes including:

“Battlefield 2: Bad Company” maps no longer takes unusually long to load
Enabling hardware shaders (perfect mode) no longer causes text and on-screen menu corruption while loading missions in “IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946″ game
Re-logging into a system after a Remote Desktop connection no longer results in “Catalyst Control Center is not supported…” warning message or the Graphics menu for Catalyst Control Center Advanced view to go missing
HDTV resolutions are now properly reported by the tooltip when the mouse cursor hovers over the CV display icon under “Desktops & Displays” in Catalyst Control Center

There’s also some added functionality for those with 120Hz displays. You can grab your very own set from AMD’s site.
